The talented Americana songwriter is currently on tour with Orville Peck
In line with the brand’s ongoing commitment to elevating new music from emerging musicians around the world, the annual Gibson Artist Spotlight program will showcase an evolving roster of musicians who will be featured across Gibson’s global and international channels.
The Artist Spotlight program debuted in January 2024 with Austin Sexton and recently added Mona Lindgren, Alex Ritchie, Zach Person, and Devon Thompson to the ranks. It also welcomed Ayoni, The Picturebooks, Camilla PNK, DeWolff, Tigirlily Gold, Santa, The Linda Lindas, The Mysterines, and now Jaime Wyatt.
Praised by Pitchfork as one of the “most exciting and skillful storytellers” of today, Jaime Wyatt stands out with her raw, honest lyricism and powerful, unmistakable voice. A native of the West Coast, Wyatt first gained attention with her 2017 debut, Felony Blues, which detailed her highly publicized struggle with addiction and her transformative experience within the criminal justice system.
Her 2020 follow-up, Neon Cross, delved into even more personal revelations and earned similar acclaim, with NPR celebrating Wyatt’s “remarkable voice” and Rolling Stone appreciating her “lush, layered, and complex” performances.
With Feel Good, her third and most ambitious album to date, Wyatt teams up with Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas to create a bold, ecstatic work of healing and self-love, featuring tight, intoxicating grooves and intense, soulful meditations on peace, purpose, and pleasure, elevating her sound to new sonic and emotional levels.
She relates, “I spent a lot of my life feeling like it was selfish to want to feel good, that women were supposed to be meek and quiet and submissive. I wasn’t born like that, though, and these songs were a big part of learning not just to accept myself, but to love myself, because if you can’t love yourself, then nobody can.”
We caught up with Jaime to find out more.
How would you describe your music?
“American rock ’n’ roll and country or Americana, country, country/soul.”
What is your favorite piece of gear?
“My 1964 Gibson B-25 acoustic is my main guitar for performing and writing. I love its midrange punchiness yet warm brightness. It’s a great strummer, and fingerpicking on it sounds so lovely.”
What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?
“There have been several, but the Grand Ole Opry was very validating as a singer and songwriter. I played Red Rocks and Merriwhether Amphitheater, and I performed my new song on the Kelly Clarkson show.”
What would be your dream artist or producer collaboration, and why?
“I would love to write with Post Malone, Jelly Roll, or Jason Isbell. I love Dave Cobb’s production as well as Dan Auerbach’s work. But I’d also greatly still love working with Shooter Jennings or Adrian Quesada again.”
What does being part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program mean to you?
“It’s one of the highest honors in rock ’n’ roll! I wanted a Gibson since I was a child, and my Gibsons have helped me write so many songs.”
What’s next on the horizon for you?
“I am on tour with Orville Peck right now, supporting the latest album, Feel Good, produced by Adrian Quesada. This summer, the band and I will play Horseshoe Festival with the Allman-Betts band, Ohana Festival. Plus, we will drop a bonus track from Feel Good in August and an Atmos mix of ‘Love is a Place.’ ‘Love is a Place’ is currently the theme song to the latest Cracker Barrel commercial.”
