Kramer reinvents a hard rock classic with the 84 HH series

Take the plunge with an axe with 80s attitude, plus a variety of finishes including AAAA quilt maple tops

It’s no exaggeration to state that the Kramer 84 is one of the most influential electric guitar designs of all time. Now, the legend has been brought bang up to date with the Kramer 84 HH in Gloss, Satin and Quilt incarnations.

A pair of Kramer USA Eruption pickups offers unparalleled versatility thanks to mini-toggle switches for coil splitting, while modern quality-of-life upgrades such as compound radius fretboards and thermally aged hard maple necks offer the perfect blend of playability, stability, and tone.

Two online and Gibson Garage exclusive finishes are available for the HH Quilts: Purple Burst and Orange Burst. Another desirable online and Garage exclusive is the 84 HH Killswitch Smoked Almond Metallic, equipped with a momentary killswitch for those Tom Morello-style stutter effects. Each guitar also features a matching non-angled, big banana headstock adorned with the vintage Kramer logo, completing the look.

A fusion of classic design and modern enhancements

The new 84 HH series retains the alder body of its predecessor, now featuring top and belly contours for enhanced comfort during extended play. The Satin and Gloss models have a thermally aged hard maple neck with a matching hard maple fretboard, while the Quilt version ups the ante with an ebony fretboard and a striking AAAA quilt maple veneer top.

The neck’s SlimTaper™ C profile is thin and fast, ideal for intricate solos and swift chord changes. A compound-radius fretboard—starting at 10 inches at the nut and expanding to 14 inches toward the body—allows for comfortable first-position chords and effortless string bending higher up the neck.

Versatile electronics for a wide tonal palette

Central to the 84 HH series are the Kramer USA Eruption pickups, designed by Gibson Master Luthier Jim DeCola and made in the USA. These humbuckers are mounted directly into the body to enhance sustain and are controlled via a three-way toggle switch.

Adding to their versatility, each pickup features an individual mini toggle switch for coil-splitting. This setup lets players switch between humbucking and single-coil tones on the fly, offering a broad spectrum of sounds suitable for multiple genres and playing styles. A single master volume knob with a retro-style black knurled design provides quick and straightforward volume adjustments.

Expressive playability and whammy bar tricks

All models have a Floyd Rose® 1000 Series vibrato system and an R2 locking nut. This setup ensures tuning stability, even during extreme vibrato use and dive bombs. The inclusion of a nickel string retaining bar and a rear-mounted wrench holder means players have the necessary tools for adjustments and string changes readily available.

Ready for the road with a premium gig bag

Understanding the demands of gigging musicians, Kramer includes a premium gig bag with each guitar. This ensures that the instrument remains protected during transit, whether heading to rehearsals, studio sessions, or live performances.
