The Wait is Over: Meet the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335

The Foo Fighters star’s long-awaited signature model features USA pickups

It’s been one of the worst-kept secrets in recent history, but finally the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 has officially launched. Designed in collaboration with Dave Grohl and Gibson Custom, this hotly anticipated design features Gibson USA Burstbucker™ pickups and a blend of ES-335 and Trini Lopez features, just like the Foo Fighters frontman’s previous Gibson signature models, which now command substantial prices on the used market.

In tribute to Grohl’s vintage 1967 Gibson Trini Lopez Standard model, which has featured on every Foo Fighters studio album, the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 sports bound diamond-shaped sound holes and split-diamond fingerboard inlays.

There’s also that unmistakable Trini Lopez-style six-in-line headstock—another throwback to the trailblazing Mexican-American’s original Gibson signature model that, thanks to Grohl, must be one of the most-heard musical instruments of the 21st century.

Premium hardware and electronics

Like Epiphone’s other Inspired by Gibson Custom models, the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 comes equipped with premium electronics and hardware. Gibson USA Burstbucker™ pickups deliver the mixture of airy chime and pulverizing punch that Dave demands, with a Burstbucker 2 in the neck and a hotter Burstbucker 3 in the bridge.

These pickups are combined with high-quality CTS® potentiometers, Mallory™ tone capacitors, and a Switchcraft® three-way toggle switch, offering guitarists nuanced control over volume and tone and robust, road-ready performance.

As you might expect from the signature instrument of one of the hardest hitting drummers around, the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335’s hardware is top-notch too, with Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners and a LockTone™ Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece keeping tuning rock solid.

The one-piece mahogany neck has an elliptical C profile and a bound laurel fingerboard, while the layered maple/poplar semi-hollow body features a maple center-block. You can have the DG-335 in any color you want (as long as that color is Pelham Blue), and the package is completed by a special Epiphone Dave Grohl hardshell case adorned with a signature graphic.

Foo Fighters resume their “Everything or Nothing at All” global stadium tour on May 1st in Dallas, Texas. Get tickets here.
