Zach Person’s high-energy rock anthems showcase an eclectic range of influences, from country to R&B
In line with the brand’s ongoing commitment to elevating new music from emerging musicians around the world, the annual Gibson Artist Spotlight program will showcase an evolving roster of musicians who will be featured across Gibson global and international channels.
The Artist Spotlight program debuted in January 2024 with Austin Sexton, recently added Mona Lindgren and Alex Ritchie to the ranks, and now it welcomes Zach Person.
American indie-rocker Zach Person’s weapon of choice is a Gibson SG, which he uses to exhilarating effect on his sophomore album, “Let’s Get Loud.” Available via all major streaming services, “Let’s Get Loud” was produced by Nashville artist Tyler Bryant. Zach describes the album as an “audio diary” of his mid-20s, and its blend of high-energy rock anthems showcases an eclectic range of influences, from country to R&B.
Zach Person kicks off a North American tour in April 2024 and will tour the UK and Europe in June. He’ll also continue to release new music throughout the course of the year. Buy concert tickets via his official website.
We recently caught up with Zach to find out more.
How would you describe your music?
“My music is a blend of rock, pop, country and R&B. I typically just say indie-rock, but I have so many influences. They all find their way out with each song—sometimes within one song!”
What is your favorite piece of Gibson gear?
“My favorite piece of Gibson gear I own is probably my 1957 LG-1/LG-2 Conversion, ‘Jeannie.’ I’d been on the search for this model after seeing Chris Stapleton’s acoustic. One Thanksgiving in Dallas, Texas, I was describing the guitar to my father-in-law and he mentioned that he believed he had something similar in his storage room! We took flashlights out to the storage unit in the middle of the cold and dark night.
“Sure enough, there was an old, brown case covered in cobwebs. The guitar that belonged to his mother Jeannie was in really poor shape. A tech in Austin, Texas called Elaine Fiolin was able to not only restore it, but give it X-bracing—essentially turning it into an LG-2.”
What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?
“The greatest highlights of my career have definitely been whenever I’ve been able to meet and/or work with another artist that’s inspired me. Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to write and record a song with musical icon, Kathy Valentine from The Go-Go’s. The title of the song is ‘We Don’t Play,’ and it’s accompanied by an action-packed music video and behind the scenes story.”
What would be your dream artist or producer collaboration, and why?
“If we’re sticking with people who are alive, I would love to collaborate with The Black Keys, Chris Stapleton, John Mayer, Jack White, and Sheryl Crow, just to name a few. These are some of my favorite modern-day musical heroes who have inspired my songwriting.”
What does being part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program mean to you?
“I feel honored to be featured in this program. Gibson is such an iconic brand with an incredibly rich history. It feels really special to be in such good company with all the other Gibson artists that make up its legacy.”
What’s next on the horizon for you?
“I just released my sophomore album, ‘Let’s Get Loud’ on March 1st. It was recorded with, and produced by, Tyler Bryant in Nashville, Tennessee. The songs of the album are essentially an audio diary that tell the story of my mid-twenties. I’ll be touring in support of the album in April and June.”
